Rev. Scott S. Himel
Pastor Scott is an Elder in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church. He received his Masters of Divinity from Duke Divinity School in ’12. Afterward, he went on to serve for a year as a Resident Chaplain at Duke University Hospital, where he earned the Westly P. Atkins award for pastoral care excellence. His first parish appointment was to Rockford: Christ UMC, where he served as Associate Pastor for five years before receiving an appointment to North Shore UMC. Pastor Scott is a passionate, scripturally-centric preacher, has a deep love for and commitment to pastoral care, has experience connecting the Church with its surrounding community, and loves exploring new ways technology can be utilized to further the ministries of God’s Church. In his personal life, Pastor Scott is single. His two parents (Mark & Fran Himel) live in Naperville, IL, and he has a sister (Ellen Keeler) and her family who live in Celina, TX. He loves to workout regularly, enjoys golfing, and playing alto saxophone and ukulele. When he has the opportunity, he also relishes cooking up a delicious meal!
Rev. Dr. Barbara Javore
Rev. Dr. Barbara Javore is a Deacon in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church. She holds a Masters of Divinity and a PhD in Christian Education from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She has been an adjunct professor at Garrett-Evangelical for over a decade, working in the Vocation Formation and Church Leadership Program and most recently, the Course of Study, teaching Spiritual Formation and Discipleship.
She also holds a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois. Her areas of concentration were in Vocal Performance and Music History with training in aesthetic theory. Her PhD incorporated her interest in the arts, aesthetics and creativity with its focus on incorporating creativity into the practice of religious education.
She has served as the Youth Coordinator for the Northern Illinois Conference, facilitating programs and educational offerings for youth throughout northern Illinois. She is a mentor for ministry candidates and served three years as a Board Member for the Methodist Federation for Social Action. She is an avid supporter of Pan-African Rural Health and Social Services in Sierra Leone. She will serve on the Board of Ordained Ministry beginning this fall.
